Request Description

Surgical Implant Generation Network (SIGN) is a US based non profit humanitarian organization which works in developing countries. It mainly works in the field of orthopedic surgery, by providing solid intramedullary interlocking nails; the same nail which can be used in Femur, Tibia and Humerus. This surgery can be performed without the use of C-arm. The organization was founded by Dr. Lewis Zirkle in 1999. SIGN has more than 130 programs throughout the developing world. More than 3000 SIGN surgeons use the SIGN system on a daily basis to repair fractures largely caused by road traffic accidents. In Nepal, it has seven projects including B. P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS).

I have introduced this programme at BPKIHS in 2006 and I am working as a Project Manager since then. Till now we have performed 80 SIGN surgeries on poor and needy patients.

Every year SIGN organizes the conference in which orthopedic surgeons from both developed and developing countries share their ideas. This year, SIGN is also conducting a workshop on economical VAC system in managing wound. There are speakers like president of OTA who will be talking about difficult fracture management. John Herzenberg, M.D, who will be talking about deformity correction. This year SIGN is also engaged in developing a newer implant for fixation of hip fractures. Attending this conference would allow me to bring newer and more implants for my institute and it would be useful for my needy patients.

Also it would help me share my experiences and knowledge with other participants in different field of Trauma and wound management.
