There are post graduate (MD/MS/ MSc) programs running, having
graduated their second batch of postgraduates this year. In particular,
there is a Department of Family Medicine training post graduate Family
Physicians as well as teaching in the undergraduate MBBS program. There
is still some reliance on faculty from outside the country. This is
particularly true in Family Medicine as this is not a program that
exists in India, though there are moves for training in Pakistan and
Bangladesh, and a program exists in Sri Lanka. The program at BPKIHS is
headed and staffed by 3 Faculty from Australia and a Nepali graduate
from Tribhuvan University. We have had short visits from faculty in
Australia and recently from North Dakota. There is an urgent need for
faculty – they can be directly employed by BPKIHS or come on faculty
exchange/visit/sabbatical programs. Longer term commitments of 2 years
would be most helpful.
