15th Annual Conference

June 3-5, 2011, Washington, DC

"Advancement of Healthcare in Nepal through Collaboration"


This year ANMF hosted its annual meeting in Washington DC. This was an informal retreat designed to focus exclusively on ANMF direction and on recruitment of new members. The meeting was open to medical and non-medical friends of Nepal who are passionate about improving healthcare in Nepal. It also served as a great opportunity to meet with old friends, network with new friends and for the growing American Nepali medical community to have a voice.

HASILO NEPAL

ANMF is supporting Hasilo Nepal! Hasilo Nepal is a three year oral health and nutrition program for children form 6 months to 6 years. The program focuses on preventing tooth decay and malnutrition by educationg communiyt health workers and families about good nutrition, providing families with tools gor good oral health. Children with dental problems are referred to the local dentist. The program is sponsored by Sidhant Gurung, Karen Sokal-Guitierrez, MD of theUniversity of California, Berkley and Aparna Bhatta, Nepali NGO Self Reliant Center.

Uterine Prolapse

ANMF support of the Uterine

The project was implemented in collaboration with Indragufa Community Development Foundation (ICDF) of Hamsapur and Kathmandu Model Hospital, Nepal. Its objectives were to:
  • Conduct women’s health needs assessment to ascertain health problems related to UVP.
  • Develop educational materials (fact sheet) about UVP in women of Nepal.
  • Hold “Health Camp” at the Community Education Center of Ramkot Higher Secondary School in Hamsapur village of Kaski district to provide comprehensive health check-up and advice on treatment.
  • Collaborate with District Public Health Office and Hospitals in Pokhara to offer medical treatment for patients refereed for surgical treatment of UVP.

ANMF handed a check to Patan PICU/NICU poor patient fund

ANMF handed over the $4250 check that ANMF had raised for the Patan PICU/NICU poor patient fund, after which ANMF Nepal President Dr. Bhagwan Koirala did a tour of the PICU and NICU.

The Vice chancellor Dr. Arjun Karki, Dean Dr. Rajesh Gongol, Director of Patan Hospital, Rector Dr. Neelam Adhikari, and chair of Pediatrics Dr. Shrijana Shrestha were also present at the ceremony. Dr. Neelam Adhikari gave a brief description of how the fund has been used in the past. More info...

Please find the photo taken during fund transfer ceremony at Kathmandu Model Hospital. We extend our sincere thanks to ANMF for proving us the fund to conduct a Women Health Camp at Hansapur, Pokhara. Dr Kiran Nakarmi, on behalf of ANMF, handed over the cheque to Dr Ganesh Dangal of Kathmandu Model Hospital.
